Lot Essay

According to the Piaget Archives, the present timepiece was manufactured in 1975.

Of the utmost rarity, the present bracelet watch is among the most impressive sculptural creations produced by Piaget during its creative peak in the 1970s. Each hand-crafted, textured 18k gold bracelet link is individually inlaid with panels of tiger-eye, while the dial itself is fashioned from a single, remarkably thin slice of the same stone. This chatoyant gemstone, prized for its deep reddish-brown hue and silky sheen, harmoniously complements the warmth of the yellow gold case.

Completing the ensemble is a matching necklace, pair of earrings, and ring, all set with tiger’s eye panels and decorated with the same textured motif, evocative of intertwining vines. Offered in a variety of ornamental stone combinations, reference 924 G13 remains exceptionally exclusive, with only a handful of examples known, including a version featuring coral and onyx. The present set was originally presented as a wedding gift to the present owner.

With creations such as this, Piaget, often described as the 'jeweller of watchmaking', demonstrated its ability to transcend traditional horology and create true wearable works of art. Every detail reflects the maison’s mastery of hardstone selection and gold craftsmanship, resulting in a piece that remains as striking today as it was over fifty years ago.

From 1969, under the leadership of Valentin Piaget, the brand entered a period of extraordinary creativity. Watches crafted in solid gold and adorned with vibrant hardstone dials came to define the aesthetic of the era, blending technical innovation with the spirit of haute couture. As noted by the Journal de Genève on April 15, 1970: 'This year, Piaget has indulged its taste for colour by going for dials in precious stone, carved out of solid jade, lapis lazuli, opal, coral, turquoise and tiger-eye. And this innovation, remember, is itself a creation of the House of Piaget'.
