Lot Essay

According to the Audemars Piguet Archives, the present timepiece was sold on March 20, 1941.

Distinguished by its slim and elegant case and double-signed pink dial featuring stylish bold hour indexes and Arabic numerals, this superb and highly attractive minute repeating AP timepiece has a resonant and clear repeating chime.

Amongst all the complications which can be found in watches, minute repeaters are an enduring classic. Allowing the owner the luxury of telling the time in the dark purely by sound, it requires special manufacturing know-how and tremendous skills to create, with only a handful of manufacturers including Audemars Piguet capable of making this exclusive mechanism for their watches. A highly desirable trophy in today’s collectors' market, the present timepiece does not fail to impress on every level. Due to the high manufacturing cost and complexity of minute repeating watch production, only a relatively small number of such horological masterpieces were ever made by Audemars Piguet.
