Lot Essay

Exhibiting a refined vintage charm, the present yellow gold Tank Cintrée embodies the dignified elegance that has made the model one of Cartier’s most enduring and celebrated wristwatches. At its heart beats the ETA calibre 2412, renamed 67X by Cartier. The polished upper surfaces of the elongated, curved case with gold brancards contrast with the brushed caseback and flanks, and the serial numbers and hallmarks are still clear and distinct. The watch's classic style is further enhanced by the golden dial, which is decorated with Roman numerals and the famous 'Paris' signature. Accompanied by a Cartier gold deployant clasp, the present example is a particularly appealing illustration of Cartier’s design mastery.

Tank Cintrée
The Tank Cintrée, which means 'curved' in French, was first introduced in 1921 and is considered by many to be one of the most elegant versions of the Tank design. Its long, softly curved case was designed to mimic the wrist's natural shape, fusing comfort with a unique aesthetic. The model has continuously remained in high demand by collectors despite being produced in comparatively small quantities over the course of its existence.

In general, the value of Cartier's wristwatches from the 20th century has steadily increased, with notable and well-preserved pieces drawing substantial interest from around the world at auction. Within Cartier's rich history of timepieces, the Tank Cintrée continues to be one of the most sought-after and iconic models as a representation of elegant and understated luxury.
