Lot Essay

One of the most prestigious and sought-after modern timepieces ever made, a Tiffany Blue® Nautilus has come to represent rarity, desirability, and the pinnacle of contemporary collecting.

In keeping with Patek Philippe’s tradition of discreet yet impactful finales, the ultimate iteration of the Nautilus reference 5711, long regarded as the defining Nautilus of the 21st century since its introduction in 2006, was both unexpected and extraordinary. The reference 5711/1A-018, distinguished by its 'Tiffany Blue®' dial, has rapidly achieved an iconic status.

The model, which was created in 2021 to mark the 170th anniversary of the illustrious collaboration between Tiffany & Co. and Patek Philippe, quickly gained international recognition. The classic stainless steel sports watch from Patek Philippe and the distinctive robin's-egg blue dial from Tiffany & Co. combine to create an eye-catching and highly collectible piece. '170th Anniversary / 1851–2021 / Tiffany & Co. - Patek Philippe' is engraved on the sapphire crystal caseback, highlighting the importance of the partnership.

On 11 December 2021, the first example of the series was sold at auction in New York for USD 6.5 million, with all proceeds benefiting The Nature Conservancy. Limited to just 170 pieces, each example was allocated exclusively by Tiffany & Co. to a select group of clients, further reinforcing the model’s exceptional rarity.

Since then, the Tiffany Blue® Nautilus has become practically legendary in modern watch collecting, seldom seen in public and highly sought after by collectors all over the world. This particular example presents a remarkable chance to obtain one of the most renowned wristwatches of contemporary times.

Tiffany Blue®
The unique robin's-egg blue color that has long been connected to Tiffany & Co. is referred to as 'Tiffany Blue®'. It was first used on the cover of the company's Blue Book in 1845 and later adopted for its packaging and visual identity.

Since 1998, Tiffany Blue® has been registered as a colour trademark and is produced as a custom shade by Pantone. Its PMS designation, 1837, references the year of Tiffany & Co.’s founding.
