Lot Essay

Exemplifying the elegance and refinement of Cartier’s celebrated Art Deco creations, the present ladies’ platinum cocktail bracelet watch from circa 1930s is a dazzling jewel of extraordinary sophistication and technical intrigue. Lavishly set throughout with shimmering diamonds, the watch is distinguished by its graceful “scallop” bracelet—an ingenious and highly decorative design that allows the bracelet and case to catch and reflect light with every movement of the wrist, creating a captivating display of brilliance and motion.

Delicate and supremely feminine in appearance, the watch conceals within its compact proportions one of the most remarkable horological achievements of its era: the celebrated Jaeger-LeCoultre Duoplan movement, signed by the European Watch and Clock Co. Inc., like many vintage Cartier watch movement. Renowned for its ingenious two-level construction, the Duoplan caliber enabled exceptional precision within an extraordinarily compact format and remains, to this day, among the smallest mechanical movements ever produced. Further enhancing its charm, the present watch features an elegant backwinding design, preserving the purity and symmetry of the case profile. True to the unmistakable aesthetic codes of 1930s Cartier, the silvered dial is arranged in a striking sector configuration with bold Arabic numerals and elegant blued steel spade hands, perfectly balancing geometry, legibility, and grace. Both a magnificent jewel and an important horological treasure, the present timepiece embodies the glamour, innovation, and timeless artistry that define Cartier at its most inspired.
