Silver gelatin print, 91 x 75mm, inscribed in pencil adding "best wishes" and the date, mounted to a sheet formerly part of an autograph album (a few small abrasions). The verso bearing an inscription by Cecil LYLE (1889-1955): ("Best wishes the Great Lyle Cavalcade of Mystery") n.p., n.d.

Lot Essay

A bust portrait of Houdini signed during one of his many tours of the United Kingdom.

Houdini had recently appeared in Nottingham at the Empire theatre on the week of 5 May billed as "THE WORLD-FAMOUS SELF LIBERATOR." (Evening Post, Nottingham, 10 May 1913, p.4).
