Double Portrait of Lulu G, c. 1929

Arturo Bragaglia’s photographic practice was developed working as an assistant to his brothers, before opening his own studio in 1914. In 1925, he helped organize the Mostra fotografica italiana in Genoa and was subsequently appointed national adviser to the Federazione dei Fotografi. Later, his professional interests shifted toward cinema, first as photographic director at Cinecittà, Rome, and later as a screenwriter and actor.

The subject of this double portrait, Lulu Gould, was part of the Lulu-Gould-Joel Naghel Band that performed in Italy in the 1920s.
