the case with pagoda hood centred by a fret-carved panel and with brass ball and spire and eagle finials, brass stop-fluted columns to the front and fret-carved panels to the sides, with breakarch trunk door above a stepped plinth with raised panel, the gilt-brass dial signed John Cowell Royal Exchange London above a silvered strike/silent ring in the arch, foliate spandrels to the silvered chapter ring, the matted centre with recessed seconds ring and date aperture, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 100½in. (255cm.) high
