the case with fret-carved swan-neck pediment to the hood, with dentil cornice below, satinwood and ebony inlay above the crossbanded door, fluted gilt-brass capped columns to the sides, the crossbanded and line-inlaid trunk door with bats' wing patera to the breakarch, flanked by chamfered angles, the plinth on bracket feet with wavy skirting, with extended backboard, the gilt-brass dial with silvered plaque in the arch signed Fenton Newcastle, foliate spandrels to the silvered chapter ring, the silvered centre engraved with foliate scrolls and a figure of Chronos, date aperture, the four pillar year-going movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 98½in. (250cm.) high
