ROBERT STEPHENSON (1803-59)
Autograph letter signed ("Rob. Stephenson") to I. K. Brunel at Westminster, one page with integral address leaf, 4to, Newcastle upon Tyne, 12 Oct. 1841.
"I have much pleasure in introducing to you a Mr. Stevens an Engineer from New York -- He is decidedly possessed of more information respecting American Railways Locomotion Engines and Steam Boats than any other Engineer I have met with from the other side of the water. He is anxious to see your Mammoth to which I hope you will not object and as he is a thoroughly practical man I doubt not you will be pleased with his conversation."
With 4 other letters of recommendation from Stephenson to Brunel, dated 1838, 1840 and 1841, two on London and Birmingham Railway headed paper. (5)
