Baron de Lagrange was one of the first European photographers to travel to India where he used the wet paper negative process invented by Louis-Desiré Blanquart-Evrard. En route to India he met Maxime de Camp in Egypt where he was struggling with the dry waxed paper process. De Lagrange suggested that he use the other method which would be easier to work with in the heat of Egypt. Du Camp followed this advice and produced his memorable series of views using this technique.
