NEWTON'S NEW AND IMPROVED TERRESTRIAL GLOBE, correctly delineated from the observations of the most esteemed navigators and travellers to the present time, manufactured by NEWTON & SON, 66 CHANCERY LANE, LONDON, and dated 1847
A pair of library globes, 18-inches (47cm.) diameter, each globe made up of two sets of twelve hand coloured engraved gores, the celestial with elaborate constellation figures, the star positions taken from the extensive catalogue of F. Woollaston (the terrestrial with serious paper loss, old abrasions and cracks, the celestial similarly damaged but less so), both globes with engraved brass hour circles to North and South Poles, engraved brass meridian circles, the coloured and engraved horizon rings raised on four mahogany quadrant supports, mounted on the carved and turned pillar, the tripod legs decorated with acanthus leaf carving and inswept feet incorporating brass castors -- 44in. (102cm.) high
