An Ottoman Sheath-Knife
17th Century
With single-edged blade (point missing) struck with a mark on one side of the forte, beaked ivory hilt cut with overlapping scales each picked out with a silver dot, and with a red pigment ground on the spine, two-piece brass collar, and original wooden leather-covered scabbard with deep silver locket and chape each chased in low relief on the outside with conventional nielloed flowers and foliage, the former with suspension-loop, the latter struck with an indistinct tugra mark
