The slender tapering blade of hollow triangular section, the forte etched, blued and gilt, including the maker's initials 'S.H.F', the ormolu hilt à clavier with maker's mark 'A.B' struck under the quillon, and reeded mother-of-pearl grips, cast and chased throughout with foliage, and on the shell with the initials 'R.F' (for République Française) within laurel branches, the pommel decorated with female neo-Classical masks flanked by lion-heads
