A German Left-Hand Mitten Gauntlet
Circa 1530, Probably Augsburg
Of bright steel, comprising a flared boxed cuff with roped recessed border, four articulated metacarpal plates extending over the base of the thumb, roped knuckle-plate (two small holes), six articulated finger-plates, the top one with roped recessed border (small piece broken off one end), and thumb-defence of three plates, all the internal edges decoratively cusped, the recessed borders and the knuckle-plate with etched designs including foliage, wings, horns, ball-flowers, and grotesque birds against a granular ground, with domed brass-headed rivets throughout, and retaining the original buff-leather lining glove
