probably froma Shiva Purana, gouche heightened with gold on paper, the long-haired deity wears a crescent moon on his forehead and a snake round his neck as he sits outside his cave receiving a group of 12 lesser deities, Nandi lies beside his fire, lake and mountains behind, mounted, framed and glazed (small areas of flaking, light water-marking and possible overpainting), Kangra or Garhwal, first half 19th century - 8¼ x 11½in. (21 x 29.3cm.)
