Pu Ru (Pu Xinyu, 1896-1963)
a running script calligraphic scroll in ink on paper -- 26 3/8in. x 8 7/8in. (67cms x 22.5cms), signed and seled Pu Ru Zhi Yin.

Pu Ru was a descendant of the Daoguang Emperor. He was educated in the classics, poetry, calligraphy and painting at a Beijing school for Children of the Imperial Family. He started painting in 1923. By 1934 he was the most important exponent of traditional painitng in Beijing. From 1949 he taught art at the Taiwan University until his death in 1963.
