An Empire bronze and ormolu striking mantel clock, first quarter 19th century
The case surmounted by a female figure in classical garb symbolising Astronomy, seated in a chair beside a table on lion monopodiae with celestial globe above, with arched niches to each side of the front mounted with a male and female bust, flanking the dial with anthemion and sheaf apron below, on acorn and stiff leaf feet to a rectangular plinth with mount to the front of an Apollo mask within an anthemion frame, on bun feet (one lacking), the white enamel Roman dial (chipping and cracking) signed Gaston Jolly Paris, the twin barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell -- 20¾in. (52.5cm.) high
