A French 19th-Century heliocentric armillary sphere,
the 5/8-inch (1.5cm.) diameter wooden terrestrial globe (gores worn with loss) on short arc, with ivory moon ball on brass quadrant, mounted on a three gear brass tellurian with flat brass handle, rotating around a central column supporting the central brass sun ball, with eight brass planet discs supported by brass quadrants revolving around it, the discs with coloured printed labels to both sides for MERCURE, VENUS, MARS, 1856 42 PLANETES TELESCOPIQUES Cérés, Pallas, Junon ..., JUPITER, SATURNE and URANUS, also giving the frequency of the plants' orbits, within a brass equinoctial ring and a brass solstitial ring, within brass horizon ring graduated in days and labelled with the compass points 9½in. (24cm.) diameter, mounted on turned ebonised column and plinth (small piece chipped from plinth) -- 15in. (38cm.) high
