NEWTON'S New and Improved TERRESTRIAL GLOBE. Accurately delineated from the observations of the most esteemed NAVIGATORS AND TRAVELLERS, to the Present Time. Manufactured by NEWTON, SON & BERRY Chancery Lane. London Published 1st. January 1832
A 20-inch (50.8cm.) diameter terrestrial library globe, made up of two sets of twelve hand coloured engraved gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees and days (clockwise in Roman, anticlockwise in Arabic numerals), the ecliptic graduated in days and showing the symbols of the houses of the zodiac, the land masses coloured in outline, and showing routes and discoveries (e.g., in Africa, Caravan Route, Scotts Route 1810 and in Greenland Explored by Capn. Scoresby 1822), the oceans showing the voyages of Captain Cook, Captain Gore and Captain Clerke, discoverers and dates (e.g. Is. discovered by Captn. Hammet 1818) and AN IMPROVED ANALEMMA (cracks, neat restoration to some areas, slight loss of image), with brass meridian ring divided into four quadrants and brass hour ring graduated I-XII twice, both clockwise and anticlockwise, mounted on horizon ring with hand coloured engraved label divided into two sets of four quadrants showing Amplitude and Azimuth, also showing the stars, zodiac houses and symbols, and stars along the ecliptic line, the days and months, and Minutes Clock before Sun, signed NEWTON & SON 66 CHANCERY LANE LONDON. (some light rubbing and neat restoration to small areas), raised on four mahogany quadrant on carved and turned pillar, the tripod legs with inswept feet incorporating castors, united by stretchers supporting the compass, with blued steel needle and brass cap -- 42in. (107cm.) high
