A Rapier
Circa 1610-20
The tapering double-edged blade with an illegible inscription at the forte, and 'Picinino' and a mark, a horse (?), stamped on each face of the ricasso, iron hilt with guard of flat slender bars, vertically recurved quillons, the forward one prolonged to form a knuckle-guard, outer side-ring and arms linked by a diagonal and subsidiary bars, inner guard framing a small pierced heart-shaped plate, ovoidal faceted pommel notched on each side, and original spirally grooved wooden grip (split)
