A Fine German Close-Helmet For The Field
Circa 1600, probably from the workshop of Anton Peffenhauser of Augsburg
Of bright steel, with heavy one-piece skull with prominent roped comb (slight damage) and pierced for lining points, visor with one-piece sight with central division, the area in front painted black, prow-shaped upper-bevor pierced with circular breaths and lower-bevor shaped to the chin, all pivoted at the same points on the skull and secured to each other on the right by spring catches with press-button and one thong release, forked visor support, two deep gorget-plates at the front and rear respectively, the bottom plates with plain turned edges, tubular brass plume-holder etched with foliated strapwork, and domed iron lining-rivets throughout (thongs and lining-leathers replaced throughout)
