A Fine Close-Helmet By Michel Witz The Younger Of Innsbruck
Circa 1530
Of bright steel, with rounded one-piece skull with low keel-shaped comb, pierced with four pairs of holes at ear-level for lining points, bevor and bellows visor pivoted at the same points on domed rivets with large iron rosette-shaped washers, the bevor with a half-turn round the edge of the face-opening, single gorget-plate at front and rear with similar turned edges and recessed borders, the front plate struck with the 'W' mark of Michel Witz , press-button sprung catches on the right securing the bevor to the skull and the visor to the bevor, engraved double-line borders, and domed iron lining-rivets throughout
11½in. (29.2cm.) high
Michel Witz the Younger of Innsbruck is first recorded in documents in 1539, but was working from before 1530. He died shortly after 1588
