A German Close-Helmet
Circa 1520
Of bright steel, of so-called 'Maximilian' type, with one-piece fluted skull with low roped comb, and neck-guard of four articulated plates, pierced with five pairs of holes, including one in the neck-guard, for lining points, bevor and bellows visor pivoted at the same points on either side, the former with a lifting-peg, the latter with a roped turn round the face-opening and flanged at the bottom to form a neck-guard, the lower edge at front and rear with recessed roped border, press-button sprung catches on the right fastening the bevor and the skull and the visor and the bevor, and domed iron lining-rivets throughout
