A LARGE MING CLOISONNE ENAMEL FLORAL-RIMMED 'DRAGON' DISH
WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A RECTANGLE AND OF THE PERIOD

The central medallion finely decorated with one yellow and one red dragon contesting a 'flaming pearl' amid ruyi-shaped clouds and flames surrounded by a key-fret border, the rounded well with a lotus scroll, each full bloom supporting a precious object, the rim with twenty-five petal-shaped brackets framing chrysanthemum blooms picked out in red, white, navy, yellow and pale blue, the exterior with further lotus scrolls, the nianhao framed by ruyi heads (one lobe in rim repaired)--19 1/2in. (49.6cm.) diam.

An identical dish in the British Museum is illustrated in Chinese Cloisonne: The Pierre Uldry Collection, fig. 61, where the authors discuss a similar dish in the National Palace Museum, where the mark has been effaced and replaced by an engraved apocryphal Jingtai mark; another unpublished example is in the Victoria and Albert Museum
