Italy: Letter sheet, A12, turned inside out and used from London to Chiavenna dated 20 June 1840, variously rated in manuscript, showing light London and Calais transit datestamps and red "A.T.F", on the inside the sender has written "I have folded it inside out, lest they shd. take it for an infernal machine. Some are made up into Envelopes with these printed remarks at the side. Some printed in blue - as 2d. covers. Did you ever?" and "The only creditable part of the invention is the thread in the paper"; slight creasing. A most unusual and rare usage. B.P.A. Certificate (1997). Photo
