Each on rectangular base with gadrooned border resting on four ball feet, the stem formed as two entwined dolphins, the salt-cellars shaped as two shells, the base engraved with crest and coronet, marked under base and on shell, stamped Odiot

Lot Essay

These fine salt-cellars were designed by Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot. This design won him the title of 'Premier Orfèvre Industriel'. It was later used and adapted by his son Charles-Nicolas and was to become one of the most popular designs (e.g. Christie's London, 31 March, 1998, lot 19).
