Rectangular box with rounded corners, the rectangular panels on cover, four sides and base engine-turned with a diaper pattern, cover and base bordered by opaque blue enamel bands engraved with gold taille d'épargne scrolling foliage and flowerheads, the sides of the cover similarly adorned with stylized palmette friezes

Lot Essay

Louis-Franois Tronquoy struck his mark in 1827 and specialised in la tabatière. He was one of the most prolific French gold box makers of the mid-19th Century and succeeded in maintaining his clientèle under the reigns of King Charles X, King Louis-Philippe and Emperor Napoleon III. His mark was waived in 1871.
