Lot Essay

This commode closely relates to those manufactured in Piedmont in the late 18th century, although the latter usually have a shallow frieze-drawer, such as that illustrated in E. Quaglino, Il Piedmonte, Milan, 1966, p. 161, and a further commode in the Museo Civico d'Arte Antica, Turin (L. Mallé, Museo Civico di Torino, Turin, 1972, cat. 334).
