Lot Essay

This pair of antique figures of basket-bearing youths may have formed part of the collection of antiquities introduced to Hatfield House, Hertfordhire, by James Brownlow Wiliams Gascoigne-Cecil, 2nd Marquess of Salisbury (d. 1868) who entertained Queen Victoria at his Elisabethan mansion in 1846.
