A FINE CHINESE EXPORT GILT-LACQUER CABINET
late 18th/early 19th century, the stand later
With a broken pediment above symmetrical scrolls, the two arched doors painted with an extensive landscape with a lake in the background, opening to a very elaborate fitted interior with small drawers, balconies and variously sized compartments with cell-pattern divisions, all finely lacquered and gilt, supported on a later stand with four slender legs terminating in lion-feet, age cracks, minor extremity chips restored
the cabinet 57½ in. (146 cm.) high, 41 in. (104 cm.) wide, 20½ in. (52 cm.) deep, on a later stand

Compare a similar gilt-decorated black lacquer cabinet on stand from Buckingham Palace is illustrated in the Principal Corridor by H.Clifford Smith in Buckingham Palace, London 1931, Country Life Ltd., p.218, fig.264. It is similarly fitted with small drawers, recessed cupboards, trellis panels, columns, steps and document slots.
