Lot Essay

Cloisonné enamel furniture is very rare. Cloisonné stools are seldom found but appear to have been more popular in the rounded barrel shape imitating porcelain. However, a pair of Kangxi square cloisonné stools from the Fonthill Heirlooms Collections was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 28 April 1996, lot 20. Refer, also, to the 17th century cloisonne enamel low table illustrated in Chinese Cloisonne: The Pierre Uldry Collection, New York, 1989, no. 182
