H.R.TICKELL. Manuscript log for H.M.S. Resolution, Empress of India and Talbot, 15 January 1896 - 15 June 1898, 2° (31 x 20cm.), kept by Tickell during tours of duty as a midshipman aboard H.M.S. Resolution (Channel Squadron), the Empress of India (Channel Squadron) and the Talbot (based in Bermuda). Illustrated with 61 original maps, charts and illustrations in pen, ink and watercolour or pencil, all by Tickell, 9 folding. Original blue morocco gilt, titled in gilt on upper cover, t.e.g. (joints split, extremities rubbed).
The tour aboard the Talbot (Oct. 1896 - July 1897) is the most interesting: based in the West Indies the Talbot sailed north to Montreal to take part in that cities celebrations of Queen Victoria's Diammond Jubilee, to New York, to Bermuda, to Nova Scotia. The illustrations include 12 views of various ships (including the Renown, flying the colours of Vice-Admiral Fisher), 11 drawings of technical details, and 34 charts and maps.
