These card-tables are inlaid with the rare feature of a draped bucrania in the frieze. A related pattern, with an Apollo-sunflower medallion, features in A. Hepplewhite & Co.'s The Cabinet-maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788, pl. 65.
A simlar pair, with delicate floral marquetry was sold from the Moller Collection, Sotheby's London, 18 November 1993, lot 102. Another similar pair was sold anonymously, Christie's New York, 29 October 1983, lot 222.
