A note in the colophon states that this manuscript was completed in the library of Nawwab Khan Khannan, a title given to a military commander of the highest rank. In 1598, when this manuscript was completed, the holder of this title was Abdul Rahim Khan, the commander-in-chief of Akbar's army and Prime Minister to both Akbar and Jahangir. His daughter was married to Prince Danyal in 1599 and he died in 1627, having served Jahangir for twenty one years. A great patron of the arts, Abdul Rahim Khan translated the Memoirs of Babur into Persian from Barbur's original Turki, presenting it to Akbar in 1589. He had one of the largest libraries of his time, employing as many as five calligraphers including the present scribe, and eight painters.
