8° (258 x 177mm). 76 hand-coloured aquatint and line-engraved plates, two after Pugin, 5 folding. (Some old staining and small repairs to plates, one plate with tear at fold.) Later red straight-grained morocco gilt, the flat spine in six compartments defined by yellow-morocco strips, lettered in one compartment, the others with repeat decoration made up from various small tools, gilt edges, by Lloyd, Wallis & Lloyd (upper cover almost detached, lower joint splitting). Provenance: René Jessen Christensen (bookplate).
First edition in book form. The issue with the author's name is "somewhat scarcer than those without" Abbey Scenery 217; Tooley 361.
