The body of the instrument in gold and silver togidashi, the corded strings inlaid in gold and intricately knotted, the remaining holes inlaid in silver, the decorative details in shell, a framed glass panel with a karashishi in takamakie at one end of the instrument, the interior of the cover in hiramakie, takamakie and kirikane on a nashiji ground with a mountainous lakeside landscape, with the moon in clouds above, the interior of the base of varying densities of nashiji

Lot Essay

The silver and gold togidashi to the body of the instrument represents the pronounced grain of the wood traditionally used in the making of koto. The corded strings are knotted as they would be on a real koto.
