RE, Sebastiano di. Il vero disegno di Vicovaro occupato da imperiali et recuperato dalla chiesa. [Rome?: Antonio Lafreri?, not before 14 February 1557 (date in title)].

Engraved bird's-eye view of the siege of Vicovaro on a median sheet, 271 x 388mm. Title set in a simple cartouche. (Window-mounted, trimmed to image, some light discolouring along old vertical fold and margins, some light staining occasionally affecting the image.)

A VERY FINE IMPRESSION of the siege of Vicovaro, showing the battle fought by the Papal forces to reclaim the fort occupied by the Spanish, identified here as the "imperiali". The view covers the battlefield as far as the burning Cantalupo and the positions held by the opposing forces are clearly shown. Tooley 594.

[With:]

A reworked later state of a newsheet showing the siege of the fortified city of Civitella, which was held by the spanish forces. The attack of the Papal forces was lead by the Swiss, the Italians, and the Gascons, under the command of the Duke of Guise. Tooley 154.
