William Robinson Leigh's superb draftsmanship began with his training in Munich. Many of his early pictures of Western life were published in Scribner's Magazine in the early 1900s. W.R. Leigh was fascinated with Native American Indian culture, and became known for his scenes depicting the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni tribes. Shelling Corn, rendered with characteristic vibrant color and meticulous detail, shows the simple beauty of daily life that so fascinated the artist.
