Lot Essay

Evsa Model, a Russian painter and Lisette Seybert met in Nice in late 1934-early 1935 and were married in 1936. In 1927, Evsa opened the bookstore, L'Esthetique at 90 Montparnasse near Caf du Dome. The store specialized in books and materials relating to contemporary art. In addition, Model used the space as a gallery to show his and others' work. He was good friends with Kertsz and helped to design exhibition announcements for the gallery Au Sacr du Printemps as well as the Constructivist exterior of his own store.

This and following two lots come from the collection of Constantine Ash, the nephew of Evsa Model and the son of Luba Ash, Evsa's sister.
