Engraved frontispiece portrait (lacking from this work, but the portrait from De mulierum organanis generationi (see below) has been inserted before the title of this work), 11 folding engraved plates (one plate with a short tear, a few minor repairs). (Engraved title and portrait soiled, some marginal soiling.) Contemporary calf (rebacked, corners worn). Provenance: early inscription on title-page verso.
FIRST EDITION of "this classical and accurate account of the anatomy of the testicle. It contains also an account of the use of clysters and of experimental fistulae which far predates Claude Bernard and Beaumont" (Heirs of Hippocrates). The short treatise at end, De usu siphonis, introduced his contribution to anatomic injection--an improved syringe.
