3 volumes in one (308 x 195 mm). Letterpress titles printed in red and black, 11 folding letterpress tables, 27 engraved plates (4 folding), numerous engraved and woodcut illustrations in text. (Lacking portrait and engraved additional title in vol. 1, a few plates lightly browned or with minor stains, one diagram shaved in vol. 2). Later half vellum, marbled boards.

FIRST EDITION of Zahn's treatise on the microscope and the telescope. "The work is particularly valuable for its illustrations of both simple and compound microscopes of the period, including the type of compound instrument used by Robert Hooke.
