The small rectangular writing box decorated on the lid in iro-e takamaki-e with a silver elephant draped with a colorful brocade 'cloth' patterned with a dragon, waves and clouds and supporting a red howdah, the ground roiro-nuri, the entire interior of the box, including the area below the trays, in less dense concentration, applied with silver hirame on a roiro ground; fitted with a removable tray holding a rectangular inkstone with fundame edges and a soft-metal round mizuire in a matching saucer, the base of the box silver hirame and roiro, the inner edges fundame and the outer edges mounted in silver
