Lot Essay

Highly versatile as an artist, Lee was equally comfortable with various media; gouache, pastel and definitely oil which was the artist's specialization. Besides painting, he also did sculptural works and was renowned for his bust of Tengku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia.

In 1936, Lee together with fellow Chinese artist (ie. Yong Mun Sen) formed the Penang Chinese Art Club which was one of the first art societies in Malaysia, which many considered as the commencement of Modern Art Movement in Malaysia.
