Lot Essay

As principal and teacher of the Fine Arts College of Indochina, both Tardieu and Inguimberty had rendered great services to Vietnamese paintings. However between them, they have had a profound difference in the methods they used to train their students.
Inguimberty was inclined to work out door, working with a composition that was consistent with natural logics, moving images and ever changing light. The present lot with a depiction of a typical Vietnamese rice field is one of the artist's favourite subject-matter: allowing the artist to record the rustic beauty of Vietnamese landscape and also enabled him to experiment the different shades of colours as the sun rays bounced off the field and the vegetation.
