Album containing 147 cartes-de-visite and twenty-seven albumen prints, approx. 3½ x 2½ in. to 7½ x 9½ in., twenty-one hand-tinted, several with photographer's printed credits on mounts or on verso, loosely mounted in pre-cut window mounts with gilt borders, pages decorated with hand-painted flowers and butterflies and a few with photographer's credits inscribed in pencil in a later hand on mounts, hand-painted title page Lucy Houson, green morocco, carved stippled wood covers, the upper cover with raised design of chestnut leaves and oval beading surrounding a glazed portrait miniature of a lady (Lucy Houson?), back cover with central monogram FI in frame of crossed logs and clover leaves, gilt metal clasp with key, g.e., lge. 4to.

Lot Essay

A fine album in it's original state, comntaining family and society portraits including approx. twenty-three subjects taken at the Lincoln Fancy Ball given by the High Sheriff January 18, 1866; portraits of men in uniform, a man dressed to go fishing, a few equestrian portraits, two of a young boy in Scottish Highland dress, a group portrait of six bearded men, portraits of children, women at their writing tables; and views of large stately homes.
