VARIOUS ENGLISH FIGURES AND WARES DEPICTING BENJAMIN DISRAELI
19th/20th century.
Comprising a Staffordshire charicature figure of the prime minister, impressed registration lozenge for 8 December 1876 and retailer's mark for Wittman & Roth, wearing oversized top hat and brown coat and leaning against a wall, 16in. (42.6cm.) high; a parian portrait bust, truncated at the shoulders and on circular socle, 8.3/8in. (21.3cm.) high; a similar bust in pewter, the head later pierced as a caster, 3in. (8.9cm.) high; a Doulton Lambeth siliconware commemorative vase, the portrait head reserved on a teal ground within a wreath of flowers above the ribbon inscription '1804 HIS FAVORITE FLOWER 1881', 4.1/8in. (10.5cm.) high; and three Wallis Cimson & Co. creamware octagonal commemorative plates, Registration no. 41050, each printed in black and one enriched in colours with Disraeli seated in a chair above his name and a verse reserved on a ground of flowers within a frame of crossed dowels and surmounted by a crown, the rim gilt, 9.5/8in. (24.4cm.) wide. (7)

Lot Essay

Another example of the plates is illustrated in the catalogue of the Jewish Museum, London, fig. 687 where it is dated circa 1870. Given the registration number found on the plates, they more likely date circa 1886.
