Lot Essay

See Anon sale; Sotheby's Tel-Aviv, 25 April 1997, lot 99 for a slightly smaller parian portrait bust published by W. Ballard, Royal Albion Stationery Bazaar, Ramsgate. It is likely that the present example is from a similar edition. See Jay Weinstein, A Collector's Guide to Judaica, London, 1985, p. 229 for an example of the glass plate about which the author states "A commemorative plate showing Sir Moises Montefiore in his old age, probably on the occassion of his birthday in 1884, or to mark his death in 1885..."
