A RARE AUSTRIAN ROCOCO ENAMEL AND GOLD SNUFF-BOX
circa 1770, both enamel panels at the inside signed by Wenceslas Chudy
Triangular flat box, the cover and base set with enamel plaques finely painted by Chudy in brown camaïeu with playful putti in clouds at various pursuits including amorini with allegories of War and Peace inside, the outsides of cover and base divided by engraved gold mounts into three reserves of irregular lozenge shape, the plain gold sides framed by horizontal reeding, slightly raised pushpiece

Lot Essay

The miniaturist Wenceslas Chudy (Bohemia 1730 - after 1790 Vienna) worked on enamel and porcelain. His enamels can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum and in the Museum of Applied Arts, Prague.
