incised with cartography after the antique, bearing no maker's name, with circles of latitude and longitude every 10°, only the prime meridian of Fero graduated, with appropriate early seventeenth century cartography,the oceans with ships and sea monsters, and Neptune with trident and attendant in the Pacific, a cartouche in North America Columbus Anno Domini 1492 Americam nomine 1499, the large southern continent shown with a group of explorers shown in typical dress around a cartouche surmounted by an armillary sphere and labelled F. Magellan 1520, T. Cavendish 1587, 1600 O. Nort and F. Dracus 1579, with Columbus 1492 and Americus Vesputiius 1499 in the cartouche, another smaller cartouche concerning Magellan and a third reading Via Vitulina held by an Elizabethan figure with pointed beard standing over a pair of fish
